Single Catheterization for Preventing Postpartum Urinary Retention in Early Postpartum Voiding Failure: A Propensity Score-Based Study

The authors aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of single postpartum catheterization in preventing postpartum urinary retention (PUR) among parturients experiencing early voiding failure. Their study found that single catheterization within 3 hours postpartum significantly reduced the risk of PUR and covert PUR, while within 2 hours, it also decreased the need for indwelling catheterization and the number of induced voiding attempts. These findings suggest potential benefits of early catheterization, warranting further prospective studies for validation.
