Thyroid Function Throughout Pregnancy in Women With Subclinical Hypothyroidism or Hypothyroxinemia

The authors aimed to evaluate thyroid function throughout pregnancy in women diagnosed with subclinical hypothyroidism or hypothyroxinemia before 20 weeks of gestation. The study found that the majority of participants in both groups experienced at least one normal thyroid function test result during pregnancy, indicating that untreated women often do not maintain abnormal thyroid levels. The findings suggest that early screening and treatment may not be necessary for many women, as their thyroid function may normalize spontaneously.
