YEARS Algorithm for Diagnosis of Suspected Pulmonary Embolism in Patients With Cancer: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Listen to this summary

This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficiency of the YEARS algorithm for diagnosing suspected pulmonary embolism (PE) in patients with active cancer, compared to the standard approach of computed tomographic pulmonary angiography (CTPA) only. The results indicated that the YEARS algorithm was as safe as CTPA, allowing for a reduction in unnecessary CTPA procedures in 22% of patients. Thus, the YEARS algorithm could serve as a viable alternative for ruling out PE in this patient population.
