Lung Transplant for Refractory Lung-Limited Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Listen to this summary

This study investigates the outcomes of lung transplant in patients with medically refractory, lung-limited, stage IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) compared to those receiving medical management alone. The authors found that lung transplant recipients exhibited significantly better overall survival rates, with a 1-year survival of 100% for transplant patients versus 40.8% for those managed medically. These findings suggest that lung transplant may offer a promising option for select patients facing respiratory failure due to advanced NSCLC, although further long-term follow-up is necessary.
