Incidence of Urinary Retention Following OnabotulinumtoxinA: A Multi-Centre Audit Challenging the Necessity of Universal CISC Training

The authors aimed to assess the incidence of urinary retention following OnabotulinumtoxinA (BoNT-A) injections for overactive bladder and evaluate the necessity of universal clean intermittent self-catheterisation (CISC) training. Their retrospective audit of 250 procedures revealed a low urinary retention rate of 4%, suggesting that the current universal education pathway may be unnecessary and advocating for a selective, risk-stratified approach to CISC training. This proposed model could optimize hospital resources and improve patient experiences by focusing education on high-risk individuals.
