Lower Urinary Tract Dysfunction in Renal Transplant Candidates: A Scoping Review of Assessment Methods and Post-Transplant Urological Outcomes

The authors conducted a scoping review to evaluate the assessment methods for lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD) in adult renal transplant candidates and to explore the relationship between pre-transplant LUTD and post-transplant urological outcomes. They found that pre-transplant LUTD is associated with an increased risk of post-transplant complications, particularly urinary tract infections, although the evidence is heterogeneous and largely based on observational studies. The review emphasizes the need for a standardized assessment framework to improve future research and clinical practices in this area.
