Surgical Strategies for Apical Pelvic Organ Prolapse: A Systematic Review and Network Meta-Analysis

The authors aimed to compare the effectiveness and safety of various surgical treatments for primary apical pelvic organ prolapse (POP) through a systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials. They found that mesh-augmented surgical approaches, including vaginal, laparoscopic, and abdominal repairs, significantly reduced anatomical recurrence compared to native tissue repair, although these methods were associated with higher risks of mesh-related complications. Notably, sacrocolpopexy demonstrated favorable anatomical durability with fewer recurrence-related reoperations.
