Intra-amniotic Categories of Preterm Prelabor Rupture of Membranes: Gestational Age-Specific Distribution, Amniotic fluid Microbial Profiles, and Neonatal Outcomes

The authors aimed to characterize the gestational age-specific prevalence, microbial profiles, and short-term outcomes associated with four intra-amniotic categories of preterm prelabor rupture of membranes (PROM). They found significant variations in microbial composition and neonatal outcomes among these categories, with intra-amniotic infection being linked to the highest risk of early-onset neonatal sepsis and adverse perinatal outcomes. The study highlights the heterogeneity of preterm PROM and the importance of identifying these categories for better clinical management.
