Dexamethasone-Free Antiemetic Prophylaxis for Children and Adolescents Receiving Highly Emetogenic Chemotherapy: A Multicenter, Phase III, Noninferiority Trial (CIVIC POD)
Listen to this summary
The study aimed to determine whether olanzapine could serve as a noninferior alternative to the standard dexamethasone-based regimen for preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) in children and adolescents receiving highly emetogenic chemotherapy. The results indicated that olanzapine provided comparable control of vomiting without the use of dexamethasone, suggesting it may be a viable corticosteroid-sparing option for pediatric CINV prophylaxis. However, olanzapine was associated with a higher incidence of somnolence.
