Below or Above 1.4 mmol/L? - Low-density Lipoprotein Cholesterol Levels During and After Incident Myocardial Infarction in Denmark
Listen to this summary
The authors aimed to investigate low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels during and after hospitalization for myocardial infarction (MI) and to estimate the number needed to treat (NNT) to lower LDL-C below 1.4 mmol/L to reduce the risk of recurrent MI, stroke, or death. They found that while LDL-C levels decreased post-MI, only 41% of patients reached the target level of <1.4 mmol/L, with an NNT of 115, indicating challenges in achieving optimal cholesterol management in this population.
