Assessing the female urogenital-rectal axis microbiome: focus on endometriosis and recurrent implantation failure

This study investigates the microbiome of the female urogenital-rectal axis to understand its potential role in endometriosis and recurrent implantation failure (RIF). By analyzing samples from 136 reproductive-aged women, the authors found significant differences in microbial profiles between various anatomical sites, particularly noting a Lactobacillus gradient. While some vaginal bacteria were associated with endometriosis, the overall findings suggest that the microbiomes of other urogenital sites do not correlate with endometriosis or RIF, indicating the need for further exploration of specific vaginal bacteria as potential biomarkers for endometriosis.
