Setmelanotide for the Treatment of Acquired Hypothalamic Obesity

Listen to this summary

This phase 3 trial aimed to evaluate the efficacy of setmelanotide, a melanocortin-4 receptor agonist, in reducing body mass index (BMI) and hunger in patients with acquired hypothalamic obesity. The results demonstrated that setmelanotide significantly decreased BMI by 16.5% and reduced hunger scores compared to placebo over 52 weeks, although adverse events were reported in all participants receiving the treatment. These findings suggest that setmelanotide may be an effective treatment option for managing acquired hypothalamic obesity.
