Area Deprivation Index, Institutional Practice, and Utilization of Neuraxial Anesthesia in Total Knee Arthroplasty

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between socioeconomic status, as measured by the Area Deprivation Index (ADI), and the utilization of neuraxial anesthesia (NA) in total knee arthroplasty (TKA). The findings revealed that hospital site significantly influenced NA rates, while ADI did not show a meaningful association with anesthesia utilization or postoperative outcomes, suggesting that institutional practices may play a more critical role than socioeconomic factors in this context. The authors recommend further research to explore these dynamics in more diverse populations.
