A proteomic signature of oocyte quality from models of varying oocyte developmental competence

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to identify the protein signatures associated with oocyte developmental competence by comparing oocytes matured in vivo and through two in vitro methods: capacitation in vitro maturation (CAPA-IVM) and standard IVM. They found significant proteomic differences linked to key biological processes, such as eukaryotic translation and autophagy, which were dysregulated in in vitro matured oocytes compared to those matured in vivo, suggesting that current IVM protocols may not fully support optimal oocyte quality. This study highlights the importance of specific protein pathways in oocyte maturation and suggests directions for improving IVM techniques.
