Patient and Clinician Perspectives on Postpartum Thromboembolism Risk and Pharmacologic Thromboprophylaxis Use: A Qualitative Study

This qualitative study aimed to explore the information needs and perspectives of postpartum individuals and obstetric clinicians regarding the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and the use of pharmacologic thromboprophylaxis after cesarean delivery. Findings revealed that while patients were generally informed about VTE risks and expressed a willingness to use prophylaxis despite some discomfort, both patients and clinicians identified gaps in education and the need for improved communication. Additionally, there was a shared recognition of the necessity for further research to refine VTE risk estimates and enhance thromboprophylaxis guidelines.
