Depressive Symptoms and Associated Factors Among Obstetrics and Gynecology First-Year Residents

The authors aimed to assess the prevalence of depressive symptoms and mental health treatment-seeking behaviors among first-year obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) residents, as well as to identify associated demographic, psychological, and workplace factors. They found that over one-third of residents screened positive for depression during their internship, yet less than one-third sought treatment, highlighting the need for improved mental health support and structural interventions to address workplace stressors. The study underscores the importance of addressing both pre-existing vulnerabilities and modifiable factors to enhance trainee well-being and ensure workforce sustainability in the OBGYN specialty.
