Complications of Epithelium-Off Crosslinking for Keratoconus: A Single Institution Historical Experience

The authors aimed to investigate the complications and risk factors associated with epithelium-off corneal collagen crosslinking (CXL) for keratoconus in a single institution. They found that while CXL has a low overall complication rate, persistent epithelial defects (PED) were significantly linked to the use of general anesthesia and preoperative corneal scarring, whereas corneal haze was associated with thicker baseline pachymetry and younger age. These insights may help improve post-operative monitoring and outcomes for patients undergoing CXL.
