In Vivo Microscopic Assessment of Ocular Surface Changes Induced by Antiglaucoma Medications

The authors aimed to investigate the effects of topical antiglaucoma medications on ocular surface disease (OSD) in patients with glaucoma using in vivo confocal microscopy. Their findings indicate that chronic use of these medications significantly worsens OSD symptoms and leads to microstructural changes in the cornea, with beta-blockers causing more damage than prostaglandin analogs. The study highlights the need for clinicians to consider the adverse effects of antiglaucoma treatments on the ocular surface.
