Twelve Years of Managing Female Urogenital Fistula in Uganda: Characteristics, Repair Outcomes, and Predictors for Success in a Multicentre Cohort Study

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to describe the characteristics and aetiology of urogenital fistula in Uganda and identify predictors for successful repair outcomes. In a multicentre study involving 510 women, they found an overall success rate of 80.8%, with factors such as urethrovaginal fistula type, previous repairs, and divorce negatively impacting success, while grand multiparity was associated with improved outcomes. These results underscore the importance of patient selection and specialized care in managing complex fistula cases.
