Malignant transformation risk and management dilemmas of atypical lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia: A retrospective cohort study comparing Peutz-Jeghers syndrome versus sporadic cases

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to compare the clinical characteristics and malignant potential of atypical lobular endocervical glandular hyperplasia (ALEGH) in patients with Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (PJS) versus sporadic cases to inform management strategies. The study found that PJS-associated ALEGH presented at a younger age and had a higher risk of malignant progression to gastric-type endocervical adenocarcinoma, particularly in cases that deferred hysterectomy. The findings suggest that prompt hysterectomy is recommended for PJS patients, while those opting for fertility preservation require close monitoring, although an optimal surveillance protocol is yet to be defined.
