Opportunistic salpingectomy during non-gynecologic surgery: Canadian surgeons' experience, barriers and facilitators

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to assess the experiences, barriers, and facilitators related to the adoption of opportunistic salpingectomy among Canadian general and urologic surgeons during non-gynecologic surgeries, given its potential to reduce ovarian cancer risk. The study found that while a majority of surgeons expressed motivation to perform the procedure, many were unaware of existing recommendations, and significant barriers included patient consent issues and reimbursement challenges. The authors suggest that enhanced training and resources could improve the procedure's uptake and ultimately decrease ovarian cancer incidence.
