Development and Testing of a Peer Recovery Support Services Intervention for Retention on Medications for Opioid Use Disorder

Listen to this summary

This study aimed to evaluate the acceptability and preliminary efficacy of a peer recovery support services (PRSS) intervention designed to improve retention in medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD). The results indicated no significant differences in MOUD adherence between the PRSS and usual care groups, although both groups demonstrated high adherence rates. Despite the lack of efficacy, participants found the PRSS intervention acceptable, suggesting potential for further development in populations facing greater challenges to MOUD retention.
