Diagnostic Accuracy of Quantitative Ultrasound Liver Fat Estimation with MRI-PDFF as the Reference Standard

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of three ultrasound-based liver fat quantification algorithms—tissue attenuation imaging (TAI), tissue scatter imaging (TSI), and ultrasound-derived fat fraction (USFF)—against magnetic resonance imaging-derived proton density fat fraction (MRI-PDFF) as the reference standard. The study found that TAI and USFF demonstrated high and comparable accuracy for detecting hepatic steatosis, significantly outperforming TSI, although the ability to differentiate between moderate and severe steatosis was limited.
