Differences in EMS Calls, Delays, and Payer Types in U.S. Southern Border Counties and Non-Border Counties

This study investigates how emergency medical services (EMS) experiences differ between U.S. counties along the Mexico border and non-border counties, focusing on factors such as payer types, patient demographics, and response delays. Analyzing data from over 421,000 EMS encounters, the authors found significant differences in payer types, injury severity, and delays, indicating that geographic location influences EMS performance and challenges. The results highlight the need for tailored EMS strategies in border regions to address these disparities.
