Medical Management of Aortic Emergencies in Critical Care Transport

The authors aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of various medications in achieving guideline-recommended hemodynamic targets for patients with aortic emergencies during critical care transport. Their study found that different treatment strategies, including combinations of beta-blockers and calcium channel blockers, had similar odds of reaching target heart rate and systolic blood pressure, with labetalol showing the lowest incidence of hypotension. Overall, the findings suggest that while combination therapy may be optimal, single-agent treatments can also be effective in managing these critical conditions.
