Episiotomy and Anal Sphincter Injury During Operative Vaginal Delivery in a U.S. Cohort

Their findings indicate that midline episiotomy is associated with increased odds of anal sphincter injury during vacuum-assisted deliveries, while mediolateral episiotomy is linked to lower odds of injury in patients without prior vaginal deliveries. These results suggest the need for further research to identify which patients may benefit from different types of episiotomy during OVD.
