Role of Perioperative Trauma-Informed Care in Gender-Affirming Surgery

The authors investigate how trauma-informed care (TIC) can be integrated into the perioperative process of gender-affirming surgery (GAS) to enhance the quality of care for transgender and gender-diverse patients, who are at high risk for re-traumatization. By reviewing literature from 2015 to 2025, they propose a framework for implementing TIC practices throughout the surgical continuum, aiming to improve patient safety, trust, and overall outcomes while promoting equity and psychological well-being in gender-affirming health care.
