Cost Effectiveness of Prophylactic Uterosacral Ligament Suspension During Hysterectomy

The authors investigate the cost-effectiveness of adding prophylactic uterosacral ligament suspension (USLS) to benign hysterectomies in order to prevent pelvic organ prolapse. Their modeling suggests that USLS can be considered cost-effective if it reduces the risk of prolapse by at least 7.1%, despite increasing costs and procedural risks. The study concludes that while routine inclusion of prophylactic USLS may not be feasible, it remains a reasonable option during hysterectomies for patients at risk of prolapse.
