Long-Term Outcomes After Vaginal, Open or Robotic Surgery for Vault Prolapse

The authors aimed to compare long-term symptom relief and retreatment rates among three surgical techniques—modified McCall culdoplasty (MMC), abdominal sacrocolpopexy (ASC), and robotic sacrocolpopexy (RSC)—for posthysterectomy vaginal vault prolapse. Their findings indicate that while all three methods provide high rates of retreatment-free survival and similar symptom relief, ASC is associated with a significantly lower retreatment rate compared to MMC. The study emphasizes the importance of shared decision-making due to the differences in retreatment rates and associated morbidities.
