Subclinical liver disease and incident cardiovascular events

Listen to this summary

This study investigates the independent and combined effects of hepatic steatosis, fibrosis, and functional decline on the risk of developing cardiovascular disease (CVD) in a large cohort of participants without pre-existing liver or CVD. The authors found that all three non-invasive liver biomarkers significantly predicted CVD risk, with a notably higher risk observed in individuals with elevated levels across all three measures. These findings suggest that subclinical liver disease is a critical factor in CVD risk assessment, highlighting the potential for these biomarkers to enhance risk stratification and inform prevention strategies.
