Vaginal Misoprostol Compared to Vaginal Dinoprostone for Induction of Labour: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Listen to this summary

This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of vaginal misoprostol versus vaginal dinoprostone for labor induction. The findings indicate that vaginal misoprostol is more effective in achieving vaginal births within 24 hours, reduces the need for oxytocin, and does not increase the rates of cesarean sections or adverse outcomes compared to dinoprostone. Additionally, lower doses of misoprostol (25 μg) may offer similar effectiveness with a reduced risk of uterine hyperstimulation.
