Errors in Point-of-Care Ultrasound Quality Assurance Data: A Descriptive Study

Listen to this summary

This study investigates the frequency and characteristics of errors in point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) examinations in emergency departments, aiming to understand their clinical impact. Out of 14,763 scans, 102 errors (0.69%) were identified, predominantly interpretive mistakes made by junior residents, with nearly one-third classified as critical errors that could potentially delay treatment. The authors suggest the need for further multi-site studies to explore factors contributing to these high-risk errors.
