Diagnostic Performance of Conventional Combined with Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasonography Versus Dynamic Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Preoperative Prediction of Nipple-Areolar Complex Involvement in Breast Cancer

The authors aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of conventional ultrasonography combined with contrast-enhanced ultrasonography (US-CEUS) against dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) for predicting nipple-areolar complex (NAC) involvement in breast cancer prior to surgery. Their findings revealed that the US-CEUS model had a significantly higher diagnostic accuracy (AUC of 0.893) compared to the DCE-MRI model (AUC of 0.817), suggesting that US-CEUS could be a valuable tool for identifying candidates for nipple-sparing mastectomy, especially in cases where MRI is not feasible.
