Hip Muscle Strengthening and Electrical Stimulation as Adjuncts to Pelvic Floor Training on Urinary Incontinence

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to determine whether adding hip muscle strengthening exercises or intravaginal electrical stimulation (ES) to biofeedback-assisted pelvic floor muscle training (BF-PFMT) could enhance outcomes for women with stress and mixed urinary incontinence. The study found that while all interventions improved pelvic floor function and quality of life, the combination of BF-PFMT with hip strengthening exercises resulted in the most significant increase in pelvic floor muscle strength. Overall, the findings suggest that adjunctive therapies can enhance the effectiveness of standard pelvic floor training.
