Escitalopram and brain reactivity to aggressive stimuli in premenstrual dysphoric disorder

Listen to this summary

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of intermittent escitalopram treatment on symptoms of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), specifically focusing on mood, aggressiveness, and neural responses to aggression-related stimuli. The findings indicate that escitalopram significantly reduced PMDD symptoms, particularly irritability and anger, and was associated with decreased aggressiveness and lower neural reactivity to provocation in brain regions linked to threat detection. Overall, the results support escitalopram's efficacy in treating PMDD and suggest its impact on neural circuits related to emotional regulation.
