Childhood attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder traits and experiences of intimate partner violence up to midlife: evidence from a longitudinal cohort over five decades

This study investigates the long-term relationship between childhood attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) traits and experiences of intimate partner violence (IPV) by midlife. Utilizing data from the 1970 British Cohort Study, the authors found that individuals with higher ADHD traits in childhood are at an increased risk of experiencing various forms of IPV as adults. The findings underscore the importance of identifying and supporting individuals with ADHD to mitigate their vulnerability to interpersonal harm.
