High-Efficiency Particulate Air Filters to Prevent Winter Respiratory Infections in Care Homes: The AFRI-c Cluster Randomized Clinical Trial

The study aimed to determine whether the use of portable high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters in care homes reduces the incidence of respiratory infections among residents. The trial found no significant difference in respiratory infection rates or staff absenteeism between care homes using HEPA filters and those without. The authors concluded that existing infection prevention measures should continue, as HEPA filters did not demonstrate additional benefits in this context.
