Moral Injury Among Physicians Caring for Immigrant Patients Amid Anti-Immigrant Policies

Listen to this summary

This study investigates the impact of anti-immigrant policies enacted in January 2025 on primary care physicians' well-being and their immigrant patients' health. Through qualitative interviews, the authors identify themes related to moral injury experienced by physicians, including conflicts between ethical values and professional responsibilities, the vulnerability of immigrant patients, and varying responses from healthcare systems. Despite these challenges, the study highlights how physicians have adapted their practices to support both patients and themselves, mitigating some effects of moral injury.
