Initiation, Adherence, and Persistence to Guideline-Directed Medical Therapy After Heart Failure Hospitalization

The authors aimed to characterize medication-use patterns following heart failure (HF) hospitalizations, specifically focusing on the initiation, adherence, and persistence of guideline-directed medical therapy. They found that a significant proportion of new prescriptions were not filled, with only 54% initiated within 7 days post-discharge, and at 6 months, only 42% of patients were adherent and 51% persistent to their medications. These findings highlight the need for interventions to improve medication use after hospital discharge for HF patients.
