Superficial peroneal nerve accessory artery: a vascular landmark in the mid-calf for ultrasound-guided ankle block
Listen to this summary
The authors aim to identify a vascular landmark that can assist in locating the superficial peroneal nerve during ultrasound-guided ankle blocks, as no consistent landmark has been documented in the literature. They report the discovery of a small artery, termed the superficial peroneal nerve accessory artery (SPNAA), located near the nerve in the mid-calf, which can facilitate its identification. This article provides a technical report on locating the SPNAA to enhance the accuracy of nerve localization in regional anesthesia.
