One-year liver graft survival from brain-dead donors treated with ECPR for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest

This study aimed to evaluate the one-year liver graft survival from brain-dead donors who underwent extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) due to refractory out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) compared to a control group of donors not treated with ECPR. The results indicated no statistically significant difference in one-year liver graft survival rates between the two groups, although the ECPR group had a lower organ retrieval rate and younger donors with higher initial severity of illness. The authors caution that the limited sample size means this lack of significance should not be interpreted as evidence of equivalence.
