Patterns of kidney involvement after corticosteroid treatment for extrarenal symptoms in pediatric IgA vasculitis (Henoch-Schönlein Purpura): phenotypes and outcomes

The authors aimed to investigate the impact of early corticosteroid treatment on the incidence, timing, and phenotypic expression of kidney involvement in pediatric patients with Immunoglobulin A vasculitis (IgAV) following extrarenal symptoms. Their findings indicate that while corticosteroids do not significantly alter the overall incidence or timing of kidney involvement, they may influence the phenotypic presentation towards milder forms of hematuria and proteinuria; however, they do not improve long-term urinary normalization in patients with moderate to severe proteinuria.
