Femoral Tunnel Position Thresholds Associated With Functional Outcomes After Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction

The authors aimed to determine the tolerable limits of femoral tunnel deviation from the anatomic insertion during medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR) and its impact on patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs). Their findings indicate that a deviation greater than 7.2 mm significantly impairs functional improvements, with excessive distal displacement having particularly negative effects on outcomes. This study provides critical thresholds for femoral tunnel positioning to optimize postoperative results in MPFLR.
