Artificial Intelligence Cannot Replace Peer Reviewers but May Help Editors Triage: A Comparative Analysis of a Large Language Model and Human Reviewer Recommendations at the <em>American Journal of Sports Medicine</em>

The authors aimed to evaluate the agreement between a large language model (LLM) and final editorial decisions on manuscripts submitted to the *American Journal of Sports Medicine*, as well as the potential of LLMs as manuscript screening tools. While the LLM showed some predictive value, particularly in identifying manuscripts likely to be rejected or cascaded, it could not replicate the nuanced judgment of human reviewers, indicating that AI may assist in initial screening but is not a replacement for peer review.
