Risk-based pathology reporting after endoscopic submucosal dissection for early gastrointestinal cancer: international consensus standards

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to establish practical international standards for pathology assessment and reporting of invasive carcinoma in endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) specimens, addressing the variability in key parameters that influence treatment decisions. Through a modified Delphi consensus process involving 42 experts, they developed 56 recommendations covering aspects such as invasion measurement, margin assessment, and the use of ancillary stains. These consensus standards are designed to enhance consistency in reporting and improve multidisciplinary decision-making in the management of early gastrointestinal cancers.
