Touch contamination and associated peritonitis in children undergoing maintenance peritoneal dialysis

Listen to this summary

This study investigates the prevalence and management of touch contamination in children undergoing maintenance peritoneal dialysis (PD) and its association with peritonitis. The authors found that touch contamination is common, particularly among younger and non-Hispanic Black children, and that administering prophylactic antibiotics after such events significantly reduces the risk of developing peritonitis. Additionally, the microbiological profile of peritonitis linked to touch contamination was predominantly Gram-positive or culture negative.
