Pembrolizumab-based systemic therapy associated with opportunities for subsequent local treatment in advanced or recurrent neuroendocrine carcinoma of the cervix: a five-case series

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to evaluate the clinical activity of pembrolizumab-based therapy in patients with advanced or recurrent neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC) of the cervix, a rare and aggressive malignancy. In a retrospective review of five patients, they found that all patients exhibited objective responses to the treatment, with significant tumor shrinkage and the potential for subsequent local therapies due to sustained systemic disease control. The study suggests that pembrolizumab may be effective even in tumors characterized by low mutational burden and microsatellite stability.
