Impact of Tissue Treatment and Leaflet Design on Fifth-Generation Balloon-Expandable Transcatheter Heart Valve Function

Listen to this summary

The study aimed to compare the performance of the SAPIEN 3 Ultra RESILIA (S3UR) transcatheter heart valve with the SAPIEN 3 Ultra (S3U) valve, particularly in terms of hydrodynamics, leaflet motion, and material properties during transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), valve-in-valve (VIV), and redo-TAVR procedures. Results indicated that the 23-mm S3UR valve exhibited improved hemodynamic performance and leaflet characteristics compared to the S3U, suggesting that the design modifications in the S3UR may enhance valve function. The authors conclude that these differences warrant further investigation to optimize transcatheter heart valve design.
