Restrictive vs Liberal Physical Restraint Strategies in Critically Ill Patients: The R2D2-ICU Randomized Clinical Trial

Listen to this summary

The authors aimed to determine the impact of a low-use wrist-strap physical restraint strategy compared to a high-use strategy on outcomes in critically ill patients receiving invasive mechanical ventilation in the ICU. The study found no significant difference in the number of days alive without coma or delirium between the two strategies, suggesting that a restrictive approach does not confer additional benefits in this patient population.
