Pelvic Girdle Pain in Pregnancy and Postpartum: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Listen to this summary

This systematic review and meta-analysis of 32 studies (N = 145,091) aimed to estimate how common pelvic girdle pain (PGP) is during pregnancy and the first postpartum year, identify associated factors, and summarize clinical assessment methods. The pooled prevalence was 59% during pregnancy and 32% in the first postpartum year, with prior low back pain, antenatal emotional distress, and a positive bilateral P4 test linked to postpartum PGP. However, the very low certainty of evidence and substantial heterogeneity mean these estimates should be interpreted cautiously.
